Once upon a time, the Springfield Workshop* was a great place to work. The workshop gave "special people" a place to work.At the risk of stereotyping, the workshop welcomed the disabled, the retarded, and all others in that category that may not have any chance. The business thrived on donations and public funding. SWS was once known as a place where one could have a second chance
The Springfield Workshop is located in the attractive city of Springfield near the a little fire station and lovely park/graveyard.It was founded in 1966, and was supported by the state and generous donors. The workshop once promoted team spirit and an overall positive attitude for it's workers. They worked together and there were a lot of rewards, complimentary dinners and good old fashioned teamwork. The supervisors, although "overworked" , were good with the employees. In short, it was a second chance for people who never had a first one.
A naive soul may have thought that the Springfield Workshop was a Utopia.
Reality hit hard when Baby Blunt slashed the budget and the workshop took a hit.And as this is being written, the workshop is under staffed and there has been a high turnover rate, and complaints from the employee's parents abounded.Supervisors found excuses not to meet with the employees, their parents, and their caseworkers.
How will this little "fairy tale" end? It's up to us.
And if not us, who?
*the one where the Simpsons lived? Please, I get that from everybody!
