['Cause] everybody lies 'n' we're stuck in the middle
I think I liked it better when the world was round
There's too much information but not enough to go on
I think I liked it better when the world was round
Ian Hunter, Shrunken Heads album
May 2007
I once talked to someone who formerly raised funds for the Republican Party. When I asked why they were no longer doing it, this individual told me :"I've told my last lie for the GOP."
I undertsand that.Anyone who has ever worked a fundraiser at one for the GOP, Democratic Party, MoveOn , etc., are wont to tell "little white" lies..
Every political group tells lies, and to echo Mr. Hunter:"Everybody lies".I concur, but some people over indulge. So today, I'm going to pick on the elephant, the creature that clains never to forget.(For the sake of argument, lrt's call it selective memory.)Do not rejoice, jackasses and ye smattering of dissentrs. Thy turn shall come...
I did my research and talked to nearly a dozen individuals who worked for just one of these companies. Before I expand, let me qualify something. If you have ever received a call from any of these people, understand this : they are not volunteers, They are paid and they receive bonuses(unless they get a pledge for over a thousand bucks-then , they don't get a dime.)(Typical treatment from the GOP-you don't need sex bacuase you get screwed everyday.)
As I mentioned, there are a lot of these companies. They are accountable to the RNC, and they do not care about your political views as an employee- as long as you're a good Republican on the clock. There are pep talks, daily indoctrination, and workers are monitored Orwellian style. It is not uncommon to be sent home after not raising a certain amount in pledges after a half hour. In addition, it is not unusual to be dragged off to the side and threatened every ten minutes if you are not productive.
You are assigned certain states. If the victim..I mean, recipient of your call asks you for the name of your company, you are instructed not to give the name of the company, but merely the location from where you are calling and that you are fundraising for the Grand Oil Party. These are some some of their favorite lines(lies) that they program their glorified telemarketers to say:
-We can't afford to have a $1,000 a plate fundraisers like the big unions do for the Democrats(no, just $10,000 a plate banquets by big corporations)
-Texas does not have a state tax but they would if the Democrats had their way
-A Democrat in the White House will raise taxes(how much are we paying now for a dead -end war and corporate welfare?)
-Tax breaks stimulate the economy!(forget the fact that your children and grandchildren will have to pay for them.)
And so forth. If you ever get a call from one of these places, ask them the name of the company. You will hear a pause.Ask them what McCain or the GOP candidate is going to lower the price of gas. Ask what they are going to do to end the war.Do they have a plan to head off the foreclosures? Do they believe in freedom of choice? Will they keep company CEOs out of the Dept. of Labor? Ask them why they are trying to paint Obama as a terrorist when the GOP has a long history of supporting terrorists.Ask them anything .It drives them nuts.
