Editor's Note: Mistaken John is an insane guy from some miserable state(his words, not mine.)
Perpetual Rebel
I once knew this guy named Marty in grade, school who couldn't keep his big trap shut.He would mouth off to a big bully then get the shit kicked out of him. (Nobody liked him except me, and even then I would ridicule him at times.Mob psychology makes you do nasty things.)
Any way, he was always getting the shit beat out of him but he'd always come back for more.
By the time we reached high school he had calmed down but he still would not back down if he thought he was right. He would get the hell beat out of him with a big board or a big fist, and it wouldnt faze him.He was big enough to start a fight and he had the balls to take the consequences.
By the time we were all seniors everybody finally accepted him. He even joined the football team because he was so full of piss, vinegar and hate that they put him on defense. The team sucked but in the flast game of the season we beat out #1 rival',all because of Marty.Blessed Lady of the Entangled Rosary's offense had the ball on their own 4-yard line with 8 seconds left.We were down 21-20 and their quarterback wanted to run out the clock. They were going to try a draw play but Marty read it perfectly. He shot the gap, sacked the QB and we got a safety and won 22-21.He had his 15 minutes of fame, and even got a girlfriend out of the deal, a star-crossed affair.
There was only one fight that he backed down from. His number came up and he was bound for 'Nam.By then, the war had escalated and the nation's kids were on an assembly line that sent them though the proverbial slaughterhouse.
Marty passed on basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and went to Montreal instead. He's still there and started a group that not only welcomed draft resistors opposed to the Iraq War, but he set up an Underground Railroad to smuggle them into Canada.
The last I heard is that the US Government is pressuring Canada to extradite Marty, but I'm not worried.
The fighter is back.
